Living Life
in
Growing Orbits
The title of this book is taken from a poem by
Rainer Maria Rilke
I Live My Life
I live my life in growing orbits,
which move out over the things of the world.
Perhaps I can never achieve the last,
but that will be my attempt.
I am circling around God, around the ancient tower,
and I have been circling for a thousand years,
and I still don't know if I am a falcon, or a storm, or a great song.
This book is dedicated to Darlene MacNaughton, my life partner, friend, lover, teacher – she listens to me, shakes her head, laughs, and signs on for another twenty years.
Also, to my mom and dad, Erma and Chuck Allen. May they rest in peace, and I certainly gave them no rest when they were living.
